About the Book
Twelve-year-old David is too short to make the basketball team so he takes his basketball along on a family vacation, hoping to improve his skills. But a startling mystery eclipses ball practice.
During one of their routine trips for icecream, David's grandfather, Max, is certain he's uncovered a connection to B.B., an old friend he thought died long ago in the Holocaust. Slowly, as David and Max search for the elusive B.B., David learns about Max's heart-wrenching experiences during World War II. As he comes to terms with his grandfather's horrific memories and declining health, David grows to understand more about the meaning of honesty—and about himself.

Notable Children's Trade Book in the Field of Social Studies
“This beautiful book, originally published in 1988, has been newly updated and revised... None of the compelling style of the original has been lost... repleat with wonderful values of friendship and family and honesty, and serves as an introduction for preteens to this horrific period in Jewish history. The revised edition has several updates, which succeed in making the story more appealing to contemporary readers... Highly recommended for ages 10-13.”
